Darkling beetle (likely a sand beetle)

Sandy beaches, dunes, and dry coastal soils, where adults shelter among debris or beneath the surface.

Adults commonly feed on decaying plant material, algae, fungi, and organic debris; larvae usually consume detritus or roots.

Mostly nocturnal and adapted to burrowing or hiding in loose sand. Adults may emerge at night to forage and can be attracted to lights.
