Assassin bug (likely wheel bug nymph)

Woodlands, gardens, fields, and other vegetation-rich habitats across much of North America.

A predatory insect that pierces caterpillars, beetles, true bugs, and other arthropods, injecting saliva to liquefy prey tissues.

Usually rests on foliage and ambushes prey; immature stages are wingless and develop through several molts. Adults are more active and may fly to lights.

Beneficial as a natural pest-control predator. It can deliver a painful defensive bite if handled, but it is not generally medically dangerous.
