Firefly

Fields, forests, and damp meadows, often entering homes near outdoor areas during summer months.

Larvae feed on slugs, snails, and soft-bodied insects. Adults often feed on nectar and pollen, or do not feed at all.

Nocturnal insects known for bioluminescence used in mating displays. Larvae (glowworms) live in soil or under bark.

Completely harmless to humans and pets, do not bite or sting, and act as beneficial predators of garden pests during their larval stage.
