Debris-carrying Lacewing Larva (Junk Bug)

Gardens, agricultural fields, and wooded areas worldwide.

Carnivorous; feeds primarily on aphids, mealybugs, scales, and other small insects.

Larvae carry a 'trash packet' on their backs composed of dead prey, plant matter, and debris to camouflage themselves from predators and lunch-stealing ants.

Highly beneficial as biological pest control; occasionally will provide a harmless but sharp defensive pinch to human skin if handled.
