Japanese beetle

Gardens, agricultural fields, lawns, and areas with an abundance of host plants and turfgrass for larvae development.

Adults feed on the foliage, flowers, and fruits of over 300 species of plants. Larvae (grubs) feed primarily on the roots of grasses.

Adults are active during warm summer days, often aggregating in large numbers to feed and mate. Females lay eggs in the soil, where the larvae overwinter and pupate.

Major agricultural and garden pest due to the extensive skeletonizing damage adults cause to leaves and flowers, and the damage grubs cause to turfgrass roots. They offer minimal direct benefits outside of being a food source for birds and small mammals.
