Carpet beetle (adult)

Homes, especially carpets, closets, and other places with wool, fur, feathers, or accumulated lint.

Adults often feed on pollen outdoors; larvae eat animal-based fibers and materials, including wool, hair, feathers, and dead insects.

The pictured small, oval, brown beetle is consistent with an adult carpet beetle. Larvae develop in concealed areas and may leave shed skins and fabric damage.

Larvae can damage natural-fiber textiles; they do not bite or spread disease. Adults may help recycle dead organic matter outdoors.
