Grapevine Beetle

Found in woodlands, thickets, and vineyards across eastern and central North America.

Adults primarily feed on the leaves and fruit of wild and cultivated grapevines. Larvae feed on decaying wood of deciduous trees.

They are primarily nocturnal and are often attracted to porch lights. They fly with a loud buzzing sound and are active during the summer months.

Harmless to humans as they do not bite or sting. They can be a minor agricultural pest in commercial vineyards, but are generally considered beneficial decomposers in their larval stage.
