Pillbug (woodlouse)

Moist soil, leaf litter, beneath logs, stones, and debris; indoors, they occur in damp areas near ground level.

Feeds mainly on decaying leaves, wood, and other dead plant material, with occasional fungal or algae consumption.

Nocturnal and moisture-dependent, hiding during dry conditions. It can roll into a ball when disturbed and has multiple offspring-bearing stages during its life cycle.

Harmless to people, pets, and buildings; it does not bite or infest food. It benefits ecosystems by decomposing organic matter, though large indoor numbers indicate excess moisture.
