Diet & Feeding

Obligate hematophage, feeding exclusively on the blood of humans and other warm-blooded animals.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal and elusive, hiding during the day and emerging at night to feed. They go through incomplete metamorphosis.

Risks & Benefits

Bites cause itchy, red welts and potential secondary infections from scratching. They are a significant nuisance pest causing psychological distress, but they are not known to transmit vector-borne diseases to humans.
