Natural Habitat

Found worldwide in pantries, warehouses, and locations where cereal grains are stored.

Diet & Feeding

Primary feeds on whole cereal grains including rice, wheat, corn, and oats.

Behavior Patterns

Adults can fly and are attracted to light. Females chew a hole into a grain kernel, lay a single egg, and seal it with secretions; the larvae then develop entirely inside the grain.

Risks & Benefits

Harmless to humans and pets as they do not bite or sting, but they are major agricultural and household pests that destroy stored food products.
