Puss Caterpillar or Southern Flannel Moth Caterpillar

Found on shade trees such as elm, oak, and citrus, as well as various garden shrubs.

Feeds voraciously on the foliage of shade trees and broadleaf shrubs.

Glides smoothly across leaves while feeding, eventually spinning a cocoon to pupate into a flannel moth.

Possesses extremely venomous spines hidden beneath its fur that cause severe, painful reactions upon contact.
