Pantropical distribution; commonly found in kitchens, pantries, pharmacies, and museum collections.

Highly varied; feeds on dried plant products, tobacco, drugs, spices, flour, leather, and books.

Adults are capable of flight and are attracted to light; they do not feed but the larvae cause extensive damage while burrowing into food sources.

Major stored-product pest that can contaminate food supplies and damage historical documents or artifacts; harmless to humans and pets directly.
