Bed bug

Beds, upholstered furniture, mattress seams, cracks, and other sheltered indoor areas near sleeping hosts.

Feeds exclusively on blood, primarily from humans and occasionally other warm-blooded animals. It usually feeds at night and returns to hiding afterward.

Flightless, nocturnal, and attracted to body heat and carbon dioxide. Females lay eggs in concealed cracks; infestations spread mainly through luggage, clothing, and used furniture.

Bites cause itchy welts and sometimes allergic reactions, but bed bugs are not known to transmit human disease efficiently. They provide little meaningful ecological benefit indoors.
