Cockroach egg case (Ootheca)

Dark, humid, and warm areas such as behind appliances, in cupboards, under sinks, or in crawl spaces.

The developing embryos inside consume yolk within the egg; adult cockroaches are scavengers eating decaying matter, starches, and crumbs.

Females carry the capsule briefly or for several days before depositing it in a protected crevice; one capsule can contain 16 to 40 developing nymphs.

Risks include signifying an active infestation; cockroaches spread bacteria, pathogens, and allergens. There are no significant benefits in a domestic ecosystem.
