Grain Weevil / Rice Weevil

Pantries, kitchens, grain storage facilities, and agricultural crop fields storing whole grains.

Feeds on whole seeds, cereal grains, rice, wheat, oats, corn, dried beans, and nuts. Larvae feed internally inside seeds.

Adult females drill holes into whole grains, lay an egg inside, and seal it with a gelatinous plug. Larvae develop internally inside the kernel. Adults can play dead when disturbed and are attracted to light.

Harmless to humans and pets as they do not bite or sting. However, they are major household and agricultural pests that contaminate and destroy stored grains and dry food supplies.
