Woolly Bear Caterpillar

Found in temperate regions across North America, inhabiting fields, gardens, and forest edges under debris or leaf litter.

Polyphagous herbivores feeding on low-growing herbaceous plants, grasses, dandelion, and plantain.

Rolls into a tight defensive ball when disturbed and overwinters in a frozen state beneath leaf litter, producing a natural antifreeze.

Completely harmless to humans as their bristles do not sting; they serve as an important food source for birds and small mammals.
