Mosquito

Found worldwide in moist environments, standing water, and humid areas near vegetation.

Female mosquitoes feed on blood for egg development, while both males and females feed on plant nectar and fruit juices for energy.

Active mostly during dusk and dawn, females locate hosts using carbon dioxide, heat, and movement. Eggs are laid in or near standing water where larvae develop.

Risks include painful, itchy bites and transmission of serious diseases such as malaria, dengue, Zika, and West Nile virus. Benefits include serving as an important food source for birds, bats, and aquatic life.
