Elephant mosquito

Tropical and subtropical forests, gardens, and shaded areas near water-filled tree holes or containers.

Adults feed mainly on nectar and plant juices; they do not blood-feed. Larvae are predatory, eating mosquito larvae and other small aquatic organisms.

Adults are mostly active in daylight and often rest in vegetation. Females lay eggs in small water-holding cavities; larvae may consume numerous pest-mosquito larvae during development.

They do not bite humans and are not known to transmit human diseases. Their larvae provide natural biological control of mosquitoes.
