Black Vine Weevil (or Rough Strawberry Root Weevil)

Gardens, nurseries, crop fields, leaf litter, and occasionally indoors seeking shelter.

Herbivorous; adults feed on leaves of ornamental plants, berries, and shrubs, while larvae feed underground on plant roots.

Flightless, nocturnal feeders that often feign death (play dead) when disturbed. Adults are predominantly female and reproduce via parthenogenesis.

Known agricultural and garden pest causing severe leaf-notching as adults and root damage as larvae. They do not bite, sting, or pose direct physical risk to humans or pets.
