Ground Beetle

Found on the ground under stones, logs, bark, leaf litter, and in gardens or agricultural fields.

Mostly carnivorous and predatory, feeding on other insects, caterpillars, slugs, snails, and various soft-bodied invertebrates.

Many species are nocturnal, fast-running hunters that hide under cover during the day. They rarely fly, though they have wings, and rely on running to catch prey or escape danger.

Completely harmless to humans (do not bite or sting aggressively), and highly beneficial as natural pest control in gardens and agricultural fields by eating destructive insects and slugs.
