Long-legged fly (probable midge or mosquito-like fly)

Often found near water, damp soil, vegetation, and illuminated windows. Adults commonly rest on glass and walls.

Adults typically consume nectar, plant fluids, or little to no food; larvae of related groups feed on algae, microorganisms, and decaying organic matter.

Adults are weak fliers attracted to lights and may form swarms, especially near water. Their aquatic or semi-aquatic larvae undergo complete metamorphosis.

Most are harmless and do not bite; some species can trigger allergies when abundant. Larvae contribute to aquatic food webs and nutrient cycling.
