Black soldier fly

Adults do not have functional mouthparts and survive on fat stores; larvae consume wide varieties of decomposing organic material.

Active during the day, they are often mistaken for wasps due to their appearance and buzzing sound; they have a short adult lifespan of 5-8 days.

Non-biting and non-stinging; highly beneficial for composting and waste reduction; larvae are a nutritious food source for livestock and pets.
