Springtail (likely aquatic or surface-dwelling springtail)

Moist soil, leaf litter, compost, decaying organic matter, and standing water surfaces. Often found around houseplants, drains, and damp containers.

Feeds mainly on fungi, algae, bacteria, decaying plant material, and microscopic organic debris; it does not bite or blood-feed.

Commonly occurs in dense groups and moves by jumping with a forked appendage called a furcula. It thrives in high humidity and may float or walk across water because of its water-repellent body surface.

Harmless to people, pets, and buildings, with no meaningful disease or bite risk. Springtails help decompose organic matter and recycle nutrients, though large indoor numbers indicate persistent moisture.
