Brown recluse spider (probable)

Dark, dry, undisturbed areas such as closets, stored clothing, boxes, attics, and sheds, especially in the south-central United States.

A nocturnal predator that eats small insects and other arthropods, usually subduing prey with venom and wandering rather than using a large capture web.

Typically shy and nonaggressive, hiding in fabric or clutter and becoming defensive when trapped against skin. The image is not sufficient for definitive identification; several harmless brown spiders look similar.

A bite is uncommon but can cause localized tissue damage and, rarely, systemic illness; seek medical care for a suspected bite or worsening lesion. It benefits ecosystems by controlling insects.
