Drain Fly Larva (Filter Fly Larva)

Moist environments rich in decomposing organic matter, such as drains, sewage pipes, septic tanks, and standing water in sinks or toilets.

Feeds on sludge, algae, bacteria, fungi, and decaying organic matter found lining drainpipes and standing water.

Larvae live submerged or semi-submerged in organic slime, using a breathing tube to access air. They pupate near the surface and emerge as small, moth-like adult flies.

Benefits: Helps decompose organic waste in drainage systems. Risks: Harmless to humans and do not bite, but large populations can become a persistent household nuisance and indicate accumulated organic debris in plumbing.
