Differential grasshopper

Grasslands, field edges, gardens, and other sunny, weedy areas across much of North America.

Feeds mainly on grasses and broad-leaved plants, including crops and garden vegetation.

A strong jumper and short-distance flier; adults are active in warm weather, and females lay egg pods in soil. The brown coloration and folded wings help it blend into dry ground and vegetation.

Usually harmless to people, but large numbers can damage crops and garden plants. It also serves as food for birds and other predators.
