Red velvet mite (likely a trombid mite)

Found in soil, leaf litter, moss, gardens, and other humid ground habitats; adults may wander onto walls or buildings.

Adults commonly prey on tiny arthropods and their eggs, while larvae parasitize insects and other arthropods. They do not feed on human blood.

Adults are active hunters, especially after rain, and move rapidly over surfaces. Their life cycle includes a parasitic larval stage followed by predatory immature and adult stages.
