Nocturnal insects that hide in tight crevices during the day. They possess distinctive pincer-like cerci at the rear end of their abdomen, which they use for defense, capturing prey, and folding their wings.

Generally harmless to humans; they do not sting and rarely pinch, and their pinch is not venomous. They can be minor garden pests to soft fruits and flowers, but they also help decompose organic material and feed on pest insects.
