False Bombardier Beetle

Found in woodlands, gardens, and under debris such as logs or rocks.

Nocturnal predator that eats other small insects, larvae, and worms.

Mainly active at night, these beetles are fast runners. They use chemical defenses by spraying a noxious fluid containing acetic acid when threatened.

Beneficial to the ecosystem as a natural pest control; they pose no serious risk to humans but the chemical spray can irritate the skin or eyes.
