Grass Spider (Funnel-web Spider)

Found in gardens, grassy areas, and low-lying shrubs where they build sheet webs with a funnel retreat.

Carnivorous; they feed on various insects that land on or crawl onto their sheet-like webs.

They are exceptionally fast runners that stay in a funnel at the edge of their web until prey is detected via vibrations. They are most active from late summer through autumn.

Highly beneficial to ecosystems and gardeners as they provide natural pest control. They are shy and non-aggressive to humans, with a bite that is generally harmless and medically insignificant.
