False widow spider (likely noble false widow)

Dark, sheltered crevices around buildings, garages, sheds, walls, window frames, and outdoor structures. Common in temperate urban areas.

A predator of flies, mosquitoes, ants, woodlice, and other small arthropods, which it captures in an irregular cobweb and immobilizes with venom.

Usually nocturnal and non-aggressive, retreating into its web or a crack when disturbed. Females may produce several egg sacs and can live for multiple years.

Bites are uncommon and generally cause localized pain, redness, swelling, or numbness; serious effects are rare. It benefits homes and gardens by controlling nuisance insects.
