Indoors near stored textiles, food products, woodwork, or lights; adults may rest on walls and furniture.

Adults generally consume little or no food. Larvae of tineid moths feed on keratin-rich materials such as wool, fur, feathers, or organic debris; some related species feed on stored foods.

Nocturnal and attracted to light; adults are weak fliers and often rest with wings folded or tent-like. Larvae are concealed and may produce silk cases or webbing, depending on species.

Usually harmless to people, though larvae of clothes moths can damage wool, fur, feathers, and other natural fabrics. They contribute modestly to decomposition and serve as prey for spiders, birds, and parasitoids.
