Carpenter Bee

Found in forests, parks, gardens, and residential areas. They nest in dead wood, bamboo, or structural timbers.

Adults feed on flower nectar and pollen. They are well-known for 'nectar robbing' by piercing the base of a flower to reach nectar.

Solitary but often semi-social, they bore holes into wood to create nesting galleries. Males are often seen hovering near nests and are territorial, though they cannot sting.

Excellent pollinators for many garden plants. Risks include structural damage to wooden buildings from their burrowing, and females can sting if handled roughly.
