Common Green Darner

Found near freshwater sources like ponds, lakes, marshes, and slow-moving streams, often ranging far into fields and backyards.

Carnivorous. Adults hunt flying insects like mosquitoes, flies, and moths mid-air. Nymphs (larvae) eat aquatic insects, tadpoles, and small fish.

Highly migratory, traveling long distances over multiple generations. They are strong, agile fliers known for their hovering ability and territorial patrol behavior.

Extremely beneficial to humans as they act as a natural pest control by consuming large quantities of mosquitoes and flies. They pose no risk to humans as they do not sting or bite unless handled roughly.
