Bed Bug

Human dwellings, particularly in and around beds, mattresses, bed frames, furniture crevices, and baseboards.

Obligate hematophages; feeds exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans, using piercing-sucking mouthparts.

Nocturnal and secretive; hides in dark cracks and crevices during the day. Guided by warmth and carbon dioxide to locate hosts, usually feeding for 3 to 10 minutes before returning to shelter.

Risks: Causes itchy, red bite welts, allergic reactions, secondary skin infections from scratching, and psychological distress/insomnia; no ecological benefits in human environments, serving mainly as household pests.
