Indoors near windows, walls, carpets, upholstery, stored textiles, and dried organic material; adults may wander toward light.

Adults often feed on pollen and nectar or may not feed. Larvae consume wool, fur, feathers, hair, lint, dead insects, and other keratin-rich materials.

Adults are oval and slow-moving, while larvae are hairy and hide in dark, undisturbed areas. Infestations develop gradually in textiles or accumulated debris.

Adults do not bite or transmit disease, but larvae can damage natural-fiber clothing, carpets, and museum materials; their hairs may irritate sensitive skin. They also decompose animal remains and serve as food for predators.
