Yellow-striped armyworm (likely)

Gardens, crop fields, meadows, and other areas with herbaceous plants across much of North America.

Larvae chew leaves, buds, flowers, and occasionally fruit from many plant species. Adults feed mainly on nectar and do not damage plants.

Nocturnal and often hides in soil, leaf litter, or plant debris during the day; it curls or thrashes when disturbed. Several generations may occur annually in warm regions, with adults dispersing at night.

It can become a garden and agricultural pest when abundant, causing defoliation and flower damage. Adults serve as prey and pollinators, while larvae support birds and predatory insects.
