Ground beetle

Found on soil, beneath stones, leaf litter, wood, and around buildings, gardens, and pavement edges. Most are nocturnal and hide during daylight.

Adults commonly prey on caterpillars, beetle larvae, slugs, snails, and other small invertebrates; some species also eat seeds and plant material.

Fast-running, ground-dwelling beetles that usually avoid flight and activity in bright light. They overwinter as adults or larvae and may be attracted to outdoor lights.

They are harmless to people and do not infest food or structures. Ground beetles are beneficial predators that help control garden and agricultural pests.
