Common Earwig

Damp, dark areas such as under rocks, mulch, woodpiles, or inside moist crevices of buildings.

Omnivorous; feeds on decaying organic matter, small insects, and various plant parts like flowers and leaves.

Nocturnal insects that are active at night and hide during the day. Known for maternal care of eggs and young nymphs.

Generally harmless to humans; they do not transmit disease though they can pinch with their cerci if handled. Benefits include eating other garden pests like aphids.
