Flat-backed Centipede

Found in damp environments such as leaf litter, under stones, or in rotting wood.

Mainly detritivorous, feeding on decaying organic matter, fungi, and occasionally tender plant parts.

Slow-moving and nocturnal. They lack eyes and rely on touch and chemical sensors. Most species have chemical defenses for protection.

Generally beneficial as decomposers in the ecosystem. Some species can produce defensive chemicals (like cyanide or phenols) that may cause skin irritation if handled.
