Katydid (bush cricket)

Vegetation, shrubs, gardens, grasslands, and forest edges; often attracted to lights at night.

Primarily leaves, flowers, fruit, and plant juices; some species also eat small insects or scavenged animal matter.

Mostly nocturnal and highly effective jumpers, using long antennae to navigate. Females usually insert eggs into plant tissue or soil, and development occurs through gradual nymphal stages without a pupal phase.

Generally harmless to humans and not medically significant. They contribute to food webs and may help regulate smaller insects, though large populations can occasionally damage ornamental plants or crops.
