Natural Habitat

Diet & Feeding

Mainly aphids (carnivorous), but also consumes thrips, mites, and small caterpillars.

Behavior Patterns

The larva uses specialized hairs on its back to attach dead insect husks and lichen as camouflage against predators and its prey. They are highly active hunters.

Risks & Benefits

Extremely beneficial for gardens as natural pest control. Occasionally, they may nip humans if handled, causing a minor, harmless prick, but they carry no toxins or diseases.
