Green Shield Bug

Gardens, woodlands, and orchards throughout Europe and Asia.

Herbivorous; feeds on plant sap from various trees, shrubs, and agricultural crops.

Changes color from green to bronze-brown in autumn for hibernation. Overwinters as an adult and emerges in spring to mate.

No risk to humans, but can be a minor agricultural pest. They produce a foul-smelling liquid from scent glands as a defense mechanism.
