Indoors near fabrics, carpets, upholstery, stored clothing, and windows; adults may gather around light.

Adults often feed on pollen or nectar. Larvae consume keratin-containing materials such as wool, fur, feathers, and shed skin, rather than biting people.

Adults are small, oval, and often patterned; larvae are hairy and hide in dark, undisturbed areas. Development can take several months to over a year indoors.

Not dangerous to humans and do not normally bite, though larval hairs can irritate sensitive skin. Heavy infestations may damage natural-fiber textiles; adults contribute modestly to decomposition and pollination.
