Springtail

Found worldwide in moist soil, leaf litter, decaying wood, and sometimes on snow surfaces.

Feeds primarily on decaying organic matter, fungi, algae, and bacteria.

Many species use a specialized ventral appendage called a furca to leap high into the air when disturbed. They reproduce without direct male contact and require high humidity to survive.

Completely harmless to humans, pets, and structures. They benefit ecosystems by decomposing organic material and contributing to soil nutrient cycling.
