Green shield bug (stink bug)

Gardens, woodland edges, grasslands, and buildings near vegetation; common on leaves and fruiting plants.

Pierces plant tissues with a sucking beak, feeding on sap, fruits, seeds, and developing leaves. Some related species also prey on small insects.

Adults often overwinter in sheltered places and become active in warm weather. They may release a strong odor when disturbed and are capable fliers.

Generally harmless to people, though some species damage crops and garden plants. They are also prey for birds and parasitoid wasps, contributing to food webs.
