Adults feed on the foliage, flowers, and fruits of over 300 plant species. Larvae (grubs) feed on the roots of grasses.

Adults are active during warm daylight hours, often aggregating in groups to feed and mate. Females burrow into soil to lay eggs, and the resulting grubs overwinter underground before pupating in spring.

Risks include significant damage to garden plants, crops, and turf grass due to defoliation by adults and root-feeding by grubs. Benefits are minimal, though adults serve as a food source for birds and small mammals.
