Damp, moist environments such as gardens, under logs, leaf litter, and basements.

Mostly herbivorous, feeding on leaves, flowers, and decaying organic matter; some species are carnivorous or scavengers.

Nocturnal and moisture-dependent; they move by muscular waves on their underside and leave a distinctive mucus trail to stay hydrated and facilitate movement.

Benefits: Decomposers that help recycle nutrients in the soil. Risks: Can be significant garden pests; some carry parasites (like rat lungworm) if ingested by pets or humans, so hands should be washed after handling.
