Natural Habitat

Diet & Feeding

Omnivorous; feeds on seeds, nectar, fruit, and other insects, but is highly attracted to grease, proteins, and sugars in human homes.

Behavior Patterns

Highly social insects that form large colonies. Known for 'sidewalk wars' where neighboring colonies engage in large-scale battles for territory. They are mostly active at night but will forage during the day.

Risks & Benefits

Generally considered a nuisance pest when they enter homes. They do not pose significant health risks, though they can contaminate food. In the ecosystem, they help aerate soil and decompose organic matter.
