Black Vine Weevil

Found in gardens, nurseries, and greenhouses; frequently hides in leaf litter or soil during the day.

Adults feed on the foliage of over 100 different plant species (notching leaves); larvae feed on plant roots.

Strictly nocturnal; flightless (wings are fused); reproduces via parthenogenesis (all individuals are female).

Significant agricultural and horticultural pest; can kill host plants by girdling the roots. Harmless to humans and pets.
